The problem with Facebook

Thanks to Alan Cann for putting me onto this film about the way in which Facebook is restricting the organic sharing of content. It is well worth watching if you want to understand a bit more about how social media sites work (and make money).

  1. That’s what is called a filter bubble: Eli Parier wrote a great book of the same name.

Jaron Lanier wrote a good book called “who owns the future” which talks about a model where people receive micropayments for sharing their data, similar to the youtube model. However, youtube is owned by google and google implements one of the biggest filter bubbles ever.

    Well worth knowing about though.
