Today I’m presenting to the Black Country LEP. I’ll be talking about what The Careers & Enterprise Company does and setting out some of the key evidence supporting our approach to careers work in schools and education/employer interactions.

Work experience and volunteering – what works?

In case you missed our third ‘what works’ seminar we’ve put together some video resources to give you access to the talks from the event. The video above provides you with a quick taster of the event. But you can also see the full talk from Johnathan Buzzeo on work experience and Joy Williams on volunteering.

We’ll be releasing more detailed reports on these issues in the autumn – but in the meantime I hope that you find this a useful summary of the evidence base.

What works? Work experience and volunteering

Have you booked to attend our next What Works seminar on 26th June 2017. The seminar will feature Jonathan Buzzeo (National Institute of Economic & Social Research) presenting some new research on work experience, job shadowing and workplace visits and Joy Williams (Institute for Employment Studies) who will examine what works when involving young people in volunteering.

Moving beyond ‘what works’: Using the evidence base in lifelong guidance to inform policy making

I have recently published an article called ‘Moving beyond ‘what works’: Using the evidence base in lifelong guidance to inform policy making‘.

It is published in a German collection on the evidence base in lifelong guidance. You can buy the book for 35 euro. So hurry and get yourself a copy before Brexit closes the borders for ever!

I’ve also posted a version on the University of Derby archive, but the actual PDF is embargoed until 2019 so you’ll have to buy the book if you want it quickly.
